The Seattle music group Thunderpussy defy convention and definition. The band's name was considered, "immoral, scandalous, or disparaging," according to the Latham Act and initially denied a trademark for their provocative name.

The iconoclastic band say it best describing themselves as, "We play music, ride motorcycles, date girls, and lift heavy shit for a living. We also want to change the world, one concert at a time. Our mission is to gather, uplift and empower those around us by creating a space where people can connect and express themselves freely."

That space on Friday is the Coliseum of Art, 500 Pike Street. And that concert is a part of a triple bill starting at 8 pm (doors open at 7:30 pm). Thunderpussy closes the summer concert season at the Coliseum of Art.

Since their inception in 2014, Thunderpussy has played venues as large as the Gorge Amphitheater and places as remote as Biddinghuizen, Netherlands (poulation around 7,000). They have played at most of the signature local venues (The Crocodile, Neumos, The Showbox, Linda's Tavern, Chop Suey, The Egyptian, etc.) as well as toured through Europe multiple times. They have toured with the likes of Pearl Jam, Bush (ironically) and Alice in Chains.

Friday's show brings them back to their hometown roots in the intimate setting of the Coliseum Theater. Lead singer Molly Sides, guitarist Whitney Petty, bassist Leah Julius and percussionist Michelle Nuño will be headlining in the intimate setting of the Coliseum Theater. LaFonda and Supreme LA Rock will also perform on Friday night.

About the genesis of the band's name, Sides told the radio station KEXP, "Because it's us. It's very much us. You know it started a bit tongue-in-cheek and fun and playful, which is very true to all of our personalities. But with any sort of given name you grow into it and there's a lot of strength and power and persistence. I think not only with our music but within our individual personalities and with each individual we've created this group that's really strong and it's quite a force and Thunderpussy is not only our name but it's very much us."

A series of of US Supreme Court decisions led to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reversing their denial for a trademark and granted the group their naming rights in 2020. On Friday, Sides lips will be doing the talking and singing.
