On Thursday, July 23, four Seattle Symphony musicians bring an evening of chamber music to the Art Love Salon. Violinists Emerson Millar and Cameron Daly, violist Olivia Chew, and cellist Eric Han will perform Mozart and Dvo?ák in the Salon's intimate fifth-floor setting.

The evening is also the Conru Art Foundation's mission in action. The Foundation exists to bring people together around beautiful things, and part of that work involves bringing interesting, world-class events and speakers to Seattle. The Salon takes place just two blocks from Benaroya Hall, a short walk from the symphony's own stage, in what's possibly the most beautiful room in Downtown Seattle.

Emerson Millar serves as the Seattle Symphony's Acting First Assistant Concertmaster. She joined the orchestra in 2022 after four years as Co-Concertmaster of the Naples Philharmonic. A graduate of the Colburn School and an alumna of the New World Symphony, Millar performs on an 1897 French violin by H.C. Silvestre.

Cameron Daly is the Symphony's Associate Principal Second Violin. Before joining the orchestra, he was first violinist of the Callisto Quartet and taught chamber music during the quartet's residency at Yale. He holds degrees from Yale College and the Yale School of Music.

Violist Olivia Chew joined the Seattle Symphony in 2020 after six seasons with the Rochester Philharmonic. A Long Island native, she studied at Indiana University and the Manhattan School of Music and remains active as a chamber musician.

Cellist Eric Han made his concerto debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at age 14. He studied at the Glenn Gould School, Colburn School, and Curtis Institute of Music and has performed with the Seattle Symphony since 2013.

The program pairs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's String Quartet No. 19 in C major, K. 465, "Dissonance," with Antonín Dvo?ák's String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96, "American."

Dvo?ák wrote the "American" Quartet in 1893 while spending the summer in Spillville, Iowa, a Czech immigrant community that offered a welcome change from New York. He sketched the quartet in three days and completed it in less than two weeks. Its open textures, rhythmic energy, and memorable melodies have made it one of the most loved works in the chamber music repertoire.

Music Soirée takes place Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Art Love Salon, 5th Floor, 110 Union Street, in Downtown Seattle. Admission is free with RSVP, and light refreshments will be served.
