Stop the Presses (Actually, Please Start Them): BIMA Opens Daisy Lane Residency
Ink, Paper, and a Stipend: Now Accepting Applications

Call us crazy, but we have a very deep affection for printmaking and printed books you can hold in your hand and turn page by page.
Apparently, we aren't alone, because the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) has launched an all-new print and book artist residency program called Daisy Lane, and is now taking applications from artists interested in securing a 2–4-week residency. And they aren't just focused on archaic print methods. This program is for artists using both traditional and new technologies in book arts, letterpress, silkscreen, Risograph, and related art forms.
Daisy Lane is within walking distance of BIMA (which means it's an easy jaunt from the ferry terminal), and it's chock-full of equipment that supports letterpress, printmaking, and book design — including a Vandercook 219AB flatbed press, a motorized Chandler & Price platen press, a Challenge paper guillotine, a polymer platemaker, a wide-ranging collection of wood and metal type, screenprinting equipment, a Risograph machine, a book bindery with a variety of equipment and hand tools, abundant table space, and more.
It's a big step forward in BIMA's commitment to "rethink how the museum could reshape its resources to help artists more directly," spearheaded by art champion and museum founder Cynthia Sears.
"The establishment of the Daisy Lane Print & Book Arts Residency is a game-changing extension of the legacy of the Cynthia Sears Artists' Books Collection at BIMA. The growing collection has long celebrated completed artists' books. The Daisy Lane residency extends that commitment by supporting artists during the most vulnerable and uncertain stages of the creative process — when new ideas are taking shape!" — Erin Zona, Curator of the Cynthia Sears Artists' Books Collection
Selected residents receive a weekly stipend and materials budget. While no travel stipend is offered, non-local artists can request housing in a private one-bedroom apartment just a five-minute walk from the studio for the duration of their residency.
