Yellacatt wears many hats. For starters, she's Seattle native Daniella White. She's an electronic pop musician who has recorded with Jonny Joon (Jonathan Hakakian) in Los Angeles. She has trained in Reiki and sound healing. She also, literally, wears many hats and has dressed celebrities and musicians, including Nicki Minaj, Daphne Guinness, Lizzo and Doja Cat, in her original design headgear. 

Yellecatt will be headlining at the Coliseum Theater this Friday at 8 pm. Kween Kaysh, D'Mon and other special guests will also perform. Tickets are available online in advance. Friday's concert is the latest in the summer music series, "Live at the Coliseum." So, who is Yellacatt, exactly?

"Like all of us, I am an amalgamation of so many things," she told the lifestyle and celebrity website Gurus in 2024. "I am a nature lover, and feel the best when I am outside in the forest, or desert, mountains or in the water. I am also an artist and adore creating vibrant art with a deeper message. I love fashion, architecture, crystals, and music, to name a few things." 

After graduating high school, Yellacatt studied at the Evergreen State College and Santa Clara University, where she trained in fine art. She also trained in vocals with Susan Carr, the renowned voice coach who has also worked with the likes of Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and Macklemore, among others.

She played at many of the iconic music clubs around Seattle during the indie rock revival/ post-grunge era of the early 2000's; clubs such as the now defunct Ballard Firehouse and Sit n' Spin, as well as stallwarts like The Showbox and Neumos.

She has drawn comparisons to Lady Gaga, for her electronic pop sound, robust vocals, catchy melodies, elaborate outfits and stage shows, and empowerment lyrics.

"Everything I’ve done has been created with the aim of introspection, and empowering people," Yellacatt told Public Display Art this week in advance of Friday's show. "In my songs, I am trying to be positive and at the same time fierce."

Yellacatt would eventually land in Los Angeles where she pursued her music career, including producing music videos for other musicians as well as her own work. She was desigining headdresses when the stylist for Guinness found her work in a showroom. She would outfit the musician, filmmaker, philanthropist and heiress Guinness, whose signature look includes elaborate hairstyles and hair accessories. That led to consulting with Minaj, Lizzo and Doja Cat.

She returned to Seattle in 2013 and continued pursuing her many talents and interests. In addition to her music, Yellacatt remains active in her Raiki practice and as a sound healer. Her sound healing can be found here.

But the night may now be bittersweet: earlier this week, YellaCatt’s alter ego, Daniella White, announced on Instagram that this could be the final YellaCatt performance.

For longtime fans, that possibility gives an already special evening even more significance.

The evening pairs YellaCatt’s live performance with DJ Kween Kaysh and drag artist D’mon, joined by D’mon’s friends and fellow performers Issa Man, Fallon Angel and Hoochie Papa. Together, the lineup promises a collision of live music, drag, fashion and performance art perfectly suited to the Coliseum’s colorful downtown setting.

The 21+ Seattle show is presented by Coliseum of Art at the corner of 5th Avenue and Pike Street in downtown Seattle. Doors open at 8 p.m., with tickets priced at $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
