Free two-hour workshops exploring charcoal drawing alongside Pacific Northwest trees. Each week, a different tree and a finished drawing.
Weekly Tree Studies
This series invites you to slow down and actually look at the trees around you. Douglas Firs. Madrones. Bigleaf Maples. Red Alders. We study their structure, their light, their character through charcoal.
Each workshop stands alone. Come for one session or return for all eight to build your tree visual library. We will focus on proportion and branching, textural depth through bark and lichen and ultimately landscapes with multiple trees in space.
You'll learn charcoal powder wash for atmospheric tone, reductive erasing to carve light from shadow, and how to render organic texture without lines. Through demonstration and guided work, you'll translate observation into confident mark-making.
By session's end, you'll have a finished 9x12 charcoal drawing. All levels welcome; no experience necessary. We provide materials, instruction, and space to work.
