In this Humanities Washington talk, Dr. Lakeya Afolalu explores how immigrant and transnational youth use the arts to express identity, build community, and find their voices. Drawing from personal experience, South Seattle community work, and youth stories, she highlights the creative lives of multilingual young people, particularly girls of color. Afolalu is a Nigerian and African American scholar and assistant professor of language, literacy, and culture at the University of Washington. The program is presented in collaboration with Humanities Washington.
